The way you insure is a crucial factor in determining how much you will be paid in the event of a claim.
Agreed Value
This basis is only permissible in Malaysia for insurance on antiques, works of art. Since the valuation of such items is subjective, it has to be agreed upon at the time of proposal.
In the event of a total loss, the "agreed" sum insured will be paid without further reference to the prevailing market value.
The basis of insurance that you choose will influence the Valuation for Buildings and Valuation for Contents for insurance purposes.
Indemnity Basis
If you are insured on this basis, you will be paid the cost of repairing the damages property or the cost of replacing or rebuilding the stolen or destroyed property - less an amount for wear, tear and depreciation (i.e. old for old basis).
Reinstatement Value
If you are insured on this basis, you will be paid the full cost mentioned above but without any deductions being made for wear, tear or depreciation (i.e. new for old basis). This basis, however, is more of the exception rather than the rule in Malaysia.
When am I considered to have breached certain policy conditions of the Houseowner or Householders Insurance.
You are considered to have breached certain policy conditions if :
Your home was used for manufacturing and/or storage of merchandise
You did not take reasonable steps to keep your premises in a proper state of repair
You did not make good any defects in the premises as soon as it is discovered
You did not take steps to mitigate the loss
You did not allow your insurers to enter your premises and take loss mitigation steps
You did not notify and cooperate with the Police
You proceeded with repairs without your Insurer's consent
You submitted a fraudulent claim to the Insurers
You admitted liability or made an offer of settlement to the third party without consulting your insurers
Any of the above could give your Insurer the right not to pay your claims.
If you are buying insurance from an Insurer for the first time, you will be required to complete a Proposal Form.
You'll have the choice to choose to by House owner's Insurance for the building and/or Householders Insurance for the contents of your home either.Alternate terms Homeowner or Home Contents Cover.
You can purchase directly from any of the General or Composite Insurance Companies licensed to operate in Malaysia or
Through their Authorized Agents or Simon Poon Agency
Through a licensed Insurance Broker

Nilai Dipersetujui
Asas ini hanya dibenarkan di Malaysia bagi insurans atas barang-barang antik, hasil seni. Sejak penilaian bagi barangan seperti ini adalah subjektif, maka ia perlu dipersetujui apabila cadangan dibuat. Dalam satu kerugian keseluruhan, asas insuran nilai "dipersetujui" akan dibayar tanpa rujukan lanjut untuk nilai pasaran yang lazim.
Asas perlindungan insuran yang anda pilih akan mempengaruhi Pernilaian atas Bangunan dan Pernilaian atas Isi Kandungan bagi urusan insuran.
Asas Ganti Rugi
Jika anda memohon insuran berasaskan ini, anda akan dibayar kos membaiki ganti rugi harta atau kos penggantian atau
kos pembinaan semula kehilangan atau kemusnahan harta - dengan potongan kos pemakaian, kemorosatan dan susut nilai (lama untuk dasar lama).
Nilai Perlantikan Semula
Jika anda memohon insuran berasaskan ini, anda akan dibayar kos penuh tersebut diatas tetapi tanpa potongan pemakaian, keuzuran atau susut nilai (misaalah. baru untuk dasar lama). Asas ini, bagaimanapun, adalah lebih-lebih satu pengecualian daripada satu undang-undang di Malaysia.

Sila ingat perlindungan diatas tertakluk kepada beberapa larangan, sekatan dan had tertentu.
Jika lindungan diatas tidak menpati liputan yang anda memerlukan, anda mungkin mahu menimbang penambahan risiko opsyenal yang sedia didapati, ianya disebut peluasan(extension).
Apakahnya saya yang dianggap telah melanggar syarat-syarat dasar tertentu insuran Pemilik Rumah atau Insuran Isi Kandungan Rumah.
Kamu dianggap telah melanggar syarat-syarat dasar polisi insuran jika :
Anda gagal melaporkan tentang kehilangan serta merta kepada pihak insuran anda
Anda gagal berkomunikasi secara surat-menyurat dengan pihak insuran anda
Anda gagal mengambil langkah-langkah munasabah untuk memastikan premis-premis anda dalam satu keadaan wajar
dibaiki.
Anda gagal memperbaiki mana-mana kecacatan dalam premis seelok-eloknya ditemui.
Anda gagal mengambil langkah-langkah bagi mengurangkan kehilangan
Anda melarangkan pihak insuran anda masuk ke premis untuk membuat cadangan pengurangan kehilangan
Anda gagal melapurkan dan berkejasama dengan Pihak Polis
Anda membuat pembaikan kerosakan tuntutan tanpa keizinan dari pihak insuran anda
Anda membuat tuntutan berciri palsu kepada pihak insuran anda
Anda mangaku liabiliti atau membuat tawaran penyelesaian kepada pihak ketiga tanpa nasihat pihak insuran anda
Sebarang tindakan anda diatas boleh menjejaskan hak atas tuntutan anda dan tidak akan dilayani Pihak Insuran .
SAYA TELAH MEMBELI SEBUAH RUMAH DAN SEDANG MENYEDIAKAN SATU CADANGAN INSURAN,
APAKAH YANG SAYA HARUS BUAT?
Jika buat pertama kali anda membuat cadangan insuran dengan pihak insuran, anda perlu melengkapi satu surat permohonan insuran (proposal form).
Kamu ada hak pilihan untuk membeli Insuran Pemilik Rumah atas bangunan dan/atau Insuran Isi Kandungan Rumah atas nilai kandungan rumah dari pihak berikut:
Secara terus dengan sebarang syarikat insuran am atau komposite berlesen di seluruh Malaysia atau
Melalui Ejen Syarikat yang disahkan atau Simon Poon Agency
Melalui Broker insuran yang disahkan
Adanya tiga cara penyediaan insuran anda, tertakluk kepada jenis bangunan yang anda perlu diinsurankan. Sila merujuk kepada Asas diinsurankan. Sejak Insuran Pemilik Rumah atau Insuran Kandungan Rumah adalah jenis insuran diiktirafkan dalam Tarif Kebakaran PIAM, skop lindungan ditawarkan kepada orangramai dan kadar premium minima telah ditentukan untuk semua syarikat-syarikat insuran didalam Malaysia. Oleh itu, kamu harus pilih sebuah Syarikat/Agent insuran berdasarkan kualiti perkhidmatan yang mereka menawarkan.
