CLAIMS GUIDEOwn Damage Claim Own damage claim occurs when your vehicle met an accident due to your own negligence and you have decided not to pay from your own pocket due to the exorbitant cost of repair to your vehicle. Since a comprehensive policy covers your own damage, you might want to make a claim from your comprehensive policy under your own insurer. If you wish to claim for your own damage under your own insurer (ABC, SPA affiliated Insurance company for e.g.) 1. You will lose your No-Claim-Discount (NCD) 2. ABC Insurance Co.(for example) will appoint an adjuster to assess the damage for you 3. If you send your car to an insurer for example (Principal Insurer) panel workshop, the repair cost is covered under your policy 4. You may have to pay the "excess" stated in your policy if you decided to send to a non-panel workshop except the Appointed Franchise Holder of your dealer/manufacturer. 5. You cannot claim for "loss of use" against your insurer or the third-party insurer. 6. You may choose the panel workshop that is nearest to your excess as we have a nationwide network of panel workshops that can offer the service. 7. You may choose your workshop outside our Principal Insurer (e.g) panel if there are none available but with PIAM authorized workshop, an excess of 1% of the claim amount will be imposed. 8. What is the first thing I should do if my car is stolen? Lodge a Police Report and inform us immediately. 2. Can I submit the required documents to the Adjuster instead of the Principal Insurer? Yes. 3. Where can I obtain the JPJ K3 Form? You can obtain it at the counter of any JPJ office. 4. My registration card is with the Finance Company. Do I need to surrender the card to you now? Yes, you need to submit it together with the Letter of Release from the Finance Company. 5. What if I have lost my Registration Card? How long does it take for a theft claim to be settled? Upon completion of an investigation by your insurer and the issuance of the police investigation result, or after a duration of four months from the date of loss whichever is earlier. 8. What is the basis of settlement? The basis of settlement will be the current market value of the vehicle at the time of the loss or the sum insured, whichever is lower. If your vehicle is insured under "Agreed Value" then the basis of settlement will be the current agreed value sum insured for the particular year of loss with compliance to policy agreement and conditions apply. 9. Are there any excesses applicable to theft claims? There is no excess. If my car is knocked by a third-party vehicle, can I claim from my own insurer and maintain my NCD? Yes, you may submit the KFK - Own Damage Claim if your policy is a comprehensive motor insurance policy. Your NCD entitlement will continue if you are not at fault based on the evidence submitted. 2. Can I appoint my own Adjuster under the KFK claim? In the case of you claiming against the Principal Insurer for KFK - Own Damage, we will appoint an Adjuster from our panel upon notification of a claim. But if you are claiming directly against the third party's insurer, you may at your own discretion appoint Adjusters at your own costs. 3. Do I have to send my car to my insurer (e.g. Chubb/ACE's Insurance) panel of workshops? Yes. Please refer to Endorsement 106 attached to your Motor Policy. 4. Can I claim for the "loss of use" of my vehicle? Yes, it is possible, but you will need to claim directly from the insurer of the negligent third party. 5. Do I have to pay any "excess" imposed under my policy? Yes. But this sum can only be recovered directly from the negligent third party's insurer together with the claim for "loss of use" of the vehicle. 6. Must I report to my insurer even if I want to claim directly from the third party's insurer? Yes, under Condition 2 of your Motor Private Policy you are required to do so. 7. Under what circumstances do I have to make payments to the repairer? You may have to bear a portion of the cost of repair when the following is applicable: > Policy Excess > Betterment > Under-insurance/Contribution 8. What about towing charges and what is the maximum limit? The maximum limit for towing charges is RM200.
